A lottery result looks simple: a row of numbers. Most checking mistakes happen before the numbers are compared at all, when a ticket is matched against the wrong game or the wrong draw. Work through these steps in order.
1. Match the game
Lotto, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto 5 Max are three separate draws, even though one ticket can enter all of them with the same board. PowerBall and PowerBall Xtra work the same way. Check which games are printed on your ticket and open the result page for each one.
2. Match the draw date (and time)
South African National Lottery games are drawn in the evening at about 21:00 SAST. UK 49s has four separate draws every day (Brunchtime, Lunchtime, Drivetime and Teatime), so the draw name matters as much as the date. Gosloto runs several draws a day, so use the draw time shown on the result.
3. Separate main numbers from the extra ball
Main numbers are shown first, in ascending order. A yellow ball after the plus sign is the extra ball: the Bonus Ball in Lotto games, the PowerBall in PowerBall games and the Booster in UK 49s. Daily Lotto has no extra ball.
- In Lotto, the Bonus Ball only matters for divisions such as “5 + Bonus”. It is drawn from the remaining balls, so it is never one of the six main numbers.
- In PowerBall, the PowerBall comes from a separate drum (1 to 16 since June 2026). Your PowerBall must equal it exactly.
- For UK 49s, whether the Booster counts depends on the bet you placed with your bookmaker.
4. Read the prize table
Each division lists how many numbers must match, the number of winning entries and the payout per winning entry. “Rollover” or R0.00 with no winners means nobody won that division in this draw. Prize tables can appear an hour or more after the numbers, so a missing table does not mean that no prizes were paid.
5. Use the checker, then confirm
The LottoFun ticket checker compares your numbers with any published draw and points out the matching division. It is a convenience: only the operator can validate a ticket. Keep your original ticket safe and note that National Lottery prizes must be claimed within 365 days of the draw.
